Susan Sarandon Receives the Grand Honorary Award at the Sitges International Film Festival

Susan Sarandon was the centrepiece of the 50th anniversary edition of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, October 2017. She received the festival’s Grand Honorary Award, presented in recognition of her extensive career in fantasy and genre cinema: from The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) to The Hunger (1983) and The Witches of Eastwick (1987). The award was accompanied by a special screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, attended by Sarandon herself, celebrating its own anniversary.

Sitges is one of the world’s premier events for fantastic, horror and genre cinema and its Grand Honorary Award is the highest tribute an actor can receive in Catalonia. Previous recipients of the festival’s lifetime honours include a long line of international screen legends.

On the sidelines of the festival, Sarandon sat down with journalist Raquel Sanches Silva for a wide-ranging conversation about the evolving entertainment landscape. A five-time Oscar nominee and winner for Dead Man Walking (1995), Sarandon spoke candidly about how streaming and television were reshaping storytelling and the new creative opportunities they offered actors. She had also previously received the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2009 Stockholm Film Festival, among dozens of international honours.
